AI Policy Institute

What AI Policy Institute does

AI Policy Institute (AIPI) is an independent, donor-supported 501(c)(3) organization focused on producing research and survey polling about the trajectory, capabilities, and public-policy implications of advanced AI systems. Its stated model is to track US public opinion on AI risks and policy preferences, then use that evidence to inform governance decisions and to support engagement with policymakers, journalists, and the broader AI safety community.

AIPI’s work is organized around three public-facing functions: (1) public opinion tracking via polling collaborations, (2) policy research that turns findings into reports and policy proposals, and (3) media and policymaker engagement intended to connect information about AI technology and public opinion to the people influencing policy. In addition to polling and reports, AIPI launched “AI Policy Daily,” a weekday email brief intended to summarize policy developments and related research, covering Congress, the White House, agencies, frontier companies, and global developments.
