What American Association for the Advancement of Science does
The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) is a U.S.-based international nonprofit organization founded in 1848 that advances science and serves society through scientific publishing, science-policy programs, and science education and public engagement. AAAS convenes the scientific community through its annual meeting and supports science’s interaction with government and policymaking via programs such as the AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellowships (STPF). In publishing, AAAS is the publisher/executive publisher behind the Science family of journals, including Science (and related titles), as well as open-access platforms such as Science Advances. Strategically, AAAS positions itself as a “field builder” at the intersection of research dissemination, institutional capacity-building for STEMM workforces, and policy-relevant expertise for federal decision-making, while also investing in science communication and learning infrastructure (for example, the AAAS Learning Hub initiative described by AAAS).
