What Apart Research does
Apart Research is an AI safety research and community-building organization that runs high-volume, distributed research “pipelines” designed to move work from weekend hackathon prototypes to publication-grade research and (for some participants) longer research fellowships. The organization positions itself as a “non-profit research and community-building AI safety lab” with a strategic focus on high-volume frontier technical research, and it publishes ongoing updates about its research output, sprint/fellowship pipeline, and community programs. Its technical emphasis spans evaluation and testing (including benchmark-style work), interpretability, AI security/safety, and risks arising from agentic or multi-agent systems. In addition to running sprints and fellowships, Apart created the Apart Lab Studio program to bridge the gap between hackathon outputs and follow-on research/proposal development. Apart also frames part of its mission around building an accessible talent pipeline and expanding participation in AI safety work beyond better-resourced institutions.
