What Atlantic Council GeoTech Center does
The Atlantic Council GeoTech Center is a Washington, DC-based research and convening program within the Atlantic Council’s Technology Programs that focuses on the geopolitics and governance of emerging technologies. Its stated mission is to shape the future of technology and data to advance society, by identifying what is needed for emerging technologies to be adopted globally for public benefit while also mitigating geopolitical and societal risks.
Programmatically, the Center organizes its work around “tech cooperation” (building international partnerships and standards), “tech competition” (analyzing government policy, investment decisions, and regulatory frameworks), and “tech innovation” (assessing the secure and principled use of emerging technologies).
A major GeoTech Center flagship initiative is AI Connect, which is jointly structured as an international capacity-building and policy engagement program cohosted with the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Cyberspace and Digital Policy, intended to help low- and middle-income countries participate in multi-stakeholder discussions on trustworthy AI aligned to OECD AI principles.
