Center for AI Policy

What Center for AI Policy does

The Center for AI Policy (CAIP) is a Washington, DC–based, nonpartisan research and policy organization focused on reducing catastrophic risks from advanced AI through U.S. policy development and advocacy. CAIP’s public-facing work emphasizes translating AI safety research concepts into legislative and administrative proposals that aim to increase government visibility, technical capacity, and enforcement readiness as AI capabilities advance. CAIP also built and supports a grassroots Policy Advocacy Network to train student advocates and connect them with policymakers. After a funding shortfall, CAIP reports that it ceased most active operations as of June 2025, while maintaining limited functions including the Policy Advocacy Network and a “legislative review service” staffed by volunteer experts.
