What Center for Strategic and International Studies does
The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is a bipartisan, nonprofit policy research organization dedicated to advancing practical ideas to address major world challenges. CSIS is headquartered in Washington, DC, and its mission is to “define the future of national security.”
CSIS’s institutional role is to produce strategy-relevant analysis and convene cross-sector leaders for policy audiences, with research spanning four core areas: defense and security; geopolitics and foreign policy; economic security and technology; and global development. CSIS states that its scholars are frequently called upon by Congress, the executive branch, the media, and others to explain current events and offer recommendations to improve U.S. strategy.
Strategically, CSIS differentiates through a mix of policy research, original data and open-source analysis, and delivery mechanisms (including multimedia and data visualization) designed to connect analysis to decision-makers. CSIS also emphasizes bipartisan values and scholar independence as part of its operating model.
