Coefficient Giving

What Coefficient Giving does

Coefficient Giving is a philanthropic funder and advisor that helps donors deploy capital toward what it describes as cost-effective, high-impact opportunities across advanced AI and biosecurity, global health and wellbeing, farm animal welfare, and broader global challenges. The organization frames its work around research-driven cause prioritization and grantmaking, using investigations and post-grant evaluation to iterate on strategy and improve outcomes. Coefficient Giving operates through multiple affiliated giving entities—including a 501(c)(3) public charity, a 501(c)(4) social welfare organization, donor-advised funds, and a partner foundation—and makes grants and investments through those structures while also running internal research functions through separate affiliated organizations.

Strategically, Coefficient Giving is positioned as a “multi-donor” grantmaking institution: after operating for years as Open Philanthropy / Open Philanthropy Project with a primary philanthropic partner, it shifted its branding and structure to reflect a growing set of major donors and pooled, joinable funds. In 2025 it directed over $1B in total giving, and in 2026 it has emphasized scaling both existing portfolios and new programmatic efforts—particularly in AI/biosecurity and global health—through new funds and requests for proposals.
