Effective Institutions Project

What Effective Institutions Project does

The Effective Institutions Project (EIP) is a U.S.-based policy and strategy nonprofit that supports donors in making higher-quality decisions about where to invest in efforts to improve the performance, incentives, and accountability of major institutions relevant to global catastrophic and existential risks. EIP frames its work around “institutional decision-making,” and it operates at the intersection of research, grantmaking strategy, and donor communications: it publishes landscape analyses and primers about priority institutions and cause areas, identifies “high-leverage opportunities” for philanthropic and policy engagement, and helps structure grantmaking pathways for aligned funders. EIP’s current public focus areas include governance of transformative AI, institutional resilience and accountability, reducing risks from great-power conflict, and protecting the world from the next pandemic.
