What European Network for AI Safety does
The European Network for AI Safety (ENAIS) is a Europe-focused community and field-building organization intended to reduce fragmentation in AI-safety work across countries by connecting researchers, policymakers, and community organizers around existential risks from AI. ENAIS positions itself as “connecting researchers and policy-makers for safe artificial intelligence in Europe,” and emphasizes coordination and information-sharing across a distributed network of local hubs, rather than operating as a single research lab.
ENOIS’s operational model centers on (1) a public-facing directory and interactive map for discovering AI-safety actors by city, (2) recurring communication such as a newsletter, (3) coordination and community programming—including the AI Safety Collab series delivered through local chapters, and (4) career/field-transition support and event coordination (including 1:1 guidance and course-related infrastructure via ENAIS’s “AI Safety Collab” and “AI Safety Course” collaboration initiative).
Strategically, ENAIS frames its role as enabling Europe’s AI-safety ecosystem to respond more effectively to EU policy windows (including the EU AI Act) by making it easier for policymakers and technical researchers to find each other, share updates, and coordinate efforts across borders.
