What Harvard Law School does
Harvard Law School (HLS) is Harvard University’s professional law school and the oldest continuously operating law school in the United States. It provides legal education and trains students for careers across private practice, public service, and legal scholarship, while also operating as a major center of research and policy-relevant scholarship through its faculty, clinics, journals, and numerous research programs and centers. HLS describes its scale and academic scope in terms of student body size (about 1,990 students annually, including J.D., LL.M., and S.J.D. students) and a large course catalog (more than 500 courses, seminars, and reading groups).
