What Information Technology and Innovation Foundation does
The Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF) is a Washington, DC–based, independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit research and educational institute focused on science, technology, productivity, competitiveness, and innovation policy. ITIF’s mission is to formulate, evaluate, and promote policy solutions that accelerate innovation and boost productivity to spur growth, opportunity, and progress.
ITIF’s work is organized through multiple policy centers, including the Center for Data Innovation, Center for Clean Energy Innovation, Schumpeter Project on Competition Policy, Center for Life Sciences Innovation, Hamilton Center on Industrial Strategy, and the Aegis Project for Defending U.S. Tech Leadership, plus Canadian and Korean competitiveness affiliates.
A defining operational feature of ITIF is the combination of (1) thematic policy research and (2) “knowledge base” style tools—such as the Non-Tariff Attack Tracker, Tech Policy To-Do List, and Technology Explainers—that package analysis into structured, frequently updated resources intended for policymakers and staff.
In 2026, ITIF moved into a new leadership phase: Daniel Castro officially became President, succeeding founder Robert D. Atkinson.
