MLCommons

What MLCommons does

MLCommons is a non-profit, open AI engineering consortium focused on collaborative, open benchmark and dataset work intended to improve AI systems’ quality, performance, safety, speed, and efficiency. The organization coordinates multi-stakeholder efforts across industry and academia to publish peer-reviewed, industry-standard benchmark suites and supporting tooling—most notably the MLPerf family—and to build dataset and engineering standards that help make ML evaluation and data development more reproducible and comparable. Its governance emphasizes technical, hands-on leadership and consensus-supported decisions, with a board drawn from the MLCommons community. MLCommons also runs working groups that extend benchmarking to new areas such as AI risk & reliability and medical AI, and develops shared data standards (for example, Croissant) intended to make datasets easier to discover, govern, and use across tools and platforms.

What it builds

MLPerf benchmark suites (MLPerf Training, MLPerf Inference, MLPerf HPC, and related domains)

MLPerf is the benchmark family MLCommons creates and maintains to measure AI system performance and improvement over time using open, peer-reviewed benchmarking methods across model and system stacks.

source ↗
MLPerf Endpoints

MLPerf Endpoints is a benchmarking approach and suite focused on measuring deployed AI endpoint performance, including throughput and interactivity/time-to-first-token style measures under load, with results published through an endpoints visualization and reporting workflow.

source ↗
AILuminate (AI Risk & Reliability benchmarks)

AILuminate is a family of safety and security benchmarks that assesses generative AI systems across hazard categories and provides public results and grading criteria intended to guide development and purchasing and to support standards/policy discussions.

source ↗
Croissant (dataset metadata standard)

Croissant is a community-built metadata format for ML datasets that standardizes how dataset metadata and loading semantics are described to improve discoverability, governance, and usability across tools and platforms.

source ↗
MedPerf (medical federated benchmarking platform)

MedPerf is an open benchmarking platform designed for medical AI evaluation using federated evaluation principles so that medical data can remain with data providers while models are evaluated and results are approved for sharing.

source ↗
Datasets for evaluation (People’s Speech and other open dataset initiatives)

MLCommons’ dataset working groups develop and release open datasets intended to improve evaluation coverage; for example, the People’s Speech dataset is described as a large open speech recognition dataset project within MLCommons dataset efforts.
