What Partnership on AI does
Partnership on AI (PAI) is an independent U.S. nonprofit (501(c)(3)) that convenes a multi-stakeholder community spanning academia, civil society, industry, and media to develop research, frameworks, and practical guidance aimed at advancing positive outcomes for people and society through AI. PAI positions itself as a forum for knowledge-sharing and collective action, with partner organizations contributing through participation in workstreams, program meetings, and related activities that translate governance and responsible AI principles into “principles to practice” resources.
Strategically, PAI has been emphasizing evidence-backed approaches to governance and deployment challenges—through topic-area work (e.g., safety-critical AI, AI and human connection, AI and labor/economy, and public policy) and through specific published guidance products. In July 2026, it announced two interconnected global initiatives—(1) the Global AI Progress Hub and (2) the “Global Responsible AI: Measures of Progress” report—designed to create a shared, public record of responsible AI actions and an independent assessment of field-wide progress.
Operationally, PAI is supported by philanthropic and corporate charitable contributions, and it describes safeguards intended to maintain independence between corporate funders’ interests and PAI’s agenda.
