What Replit does
Replit is a private software-creation platform that combines a cloud “app factory” with AI agents to help people go from an idea described in natural language to a running application with minimal traditional development setup. The company’s core product is Replit, a browser-based environment where users can create apps and other publishable artifacts (for example web apps and mobile apps) using built-in infrastructure primitives (such as database/storage hosting) and collaborative workflows. On top of that environment, Replit offers agentic and AI-assisted capabilities: Replit Agent (the AI builder) is designed to take on end-to-end software creation tasks, while Ghostwriter adds an AI “pair programmer” experience inside the coding environment. Replit also positions the platform for enterprise workflows through features aimed at security controls, deployment options, and partner integrations.
Strategically, Replit has been shifting its messaging and product surface from “online coding” toward AI-native software creation—emphasizing multi-step agent workflows (planning, building, testing/fixing, and deployment), along with integrations that let enterprises deploy or govern applications in their existing ecosystems. In recent product updates, Replit has also expanded how users can access the workflow (for example, introducing Free Mode tied to OpenAI’s model routing, launching capabilities through Claude via an official connector, and enabling Shopify storefront creation via conversation workflows).
