What Tenstorrent does
Tenstorrent is an AI compute company that designs AI accelerators built around its Tensix technology and couples them with a RISC-V CPU approach and an open software stack. In practice, the company sells AI hardware (PCIe cards and workstation/server configurations) and also offers licensable AI and RISC-V intellectual property for customers that want to own and customize their silicon. Tenstorrent emphasizes an “open” platform strategy—hardware and software stacks intended to be extensible by developers—alongside system-scale deployments it calls Networked AI, where compute and networking are treated as a unified platform for AI serving and production workloads.
On the hardware side, Tenstorrent’s product family is organized around chip generations and packaged systems: Blackhole is offered as PCIe cards (“Blackhole” cards) and is also deployed in scaled multi-server configurations referred to as Tenstorrent Galaxy superclusters. Tenstorrent’s business model is therefore multi-track: (1) sell accelerators and complete systems to developers and enterprise users, (2) work with customers and partners to deploy AI in production at system scale (including via partner ecosystems), and (3) license compute and RISC-V IP to help customers build their own solutions and avoid vendor lock-in. Strategic fundraising and partner announcements—such as a major Series D led/co-led by Samsung Securities and AFW Partners, plus a strategic up-round led by Hyundai Motor Group and Samsung Catalyst Fund—support the company’s stated focus on expanding its open software stack, global design centers, and systems/cloud for AI developers.
