What White House Office of Science and Technology Policy does
The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) is an Executive Office of the President (EOP) office established by Congress in 1976 to provide the President and the EOP with advice on the scientific, engineering, and technological aspects of national policy and the work of the executive branch. OSTP’s director oversees the development and execution of the nation’s science and technology policy agenda—covering areas such as artificial intelligence, quantum information sciences, and biotechnology—while also leading interagency coordination through the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC). OSTP also supports the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) with annual reviews and priority setting for the Federal research and development budget, and it serves as a source of scientific and technical analysis and judgment for the President. In addition, the OSTP director co-chairs the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST).
