What Replicate does
Replicate is an AI inference “model hosting + developer API” platform that lets software developers run and integrate many open-weight and custom machine-learning models through a consistent cloud interface. The product is designed to remove the usual ML-infrastructure and packaging burden (e.g., GPU and deployment complexity) so engineers can treat models like composable software components—running them via Replicate’s API, SDKs, and web UI, and using standardized model artifacts created with Replicate’s Cog packaging format. Replicate’s model catalog and project workflow are aimed at builders who want to ship AI features (image/video generation, embeddings, and LLM-style workloads) without becoming ML engineers, while still allowing customization via fine-tuning and custom model publishing.
As of the acquisition agreement announced on November 17, 2025, Replicate is part of Cloudflare (NYSE: NET) and is expected to continue operating as a distinct brand while integrating deeper into Cloudflare’s developer platform. Replicate’s API is stated as unchanged for existing models and deployments, and the acquisition positions Replicate’s model catalog and expertise to power capabilities on Cloudflare Workers AI and related services.
